Brinkley’s sponsors the Royal Wedding…

…well the Braemar Avenue street party celebration, at any rate!

After months of careful planning, the ‘Big Day’ arrived, which meant an early start for the Braemar Avenue residents and some of our staff, as we set about putting up tables, chairs and bunting as well as decorating the tables.

Thanks to Saj and Imran for setting up the big television screens and sound system. These were sheltered from the threatening rain clouds, under the large gazebo, at the northern end of the street. Everyone got a good view of Will and Kate tying the knot in grand style, whilst munching on an impressive array of hand-decorated cup-cakes and posing with our very own Royal Couple.

After the ceremony, the children, some of which were dressed as princesses, had fun making their own commemorative, ceramic tiles. There was face-painting and a competition for the best-dressed bicycle or scooter, all of which should have won a prize for imagination and effort.

At the other end of the avenue, people enjoyed al fresco table tennis, table football and shooting at the mini goal posts. Meanwhile, boys of all ages were taking part in a game of cricket that, just like the real thing, lasted all day, although the scoring was a little vague.

Luckily, the bad weather stayed away and even the sun came out for a while to brighten up a day to remember. We‘ve heard that the Royal couple had quite a memorable day, too but without the face-paint!
